# Connect your app to ActiveCampaign

> Connect your app to ActiveCampaign to manage contacts and mailing lists, create and schedule email campaigns, and work with audience segments.

[ActiveCampaign](https://www.activecampaign.com/) is an email marketing and automation platform. The ActiveCampaign connector lets your Lovable app manage contacts, mailing lists, campaigns, and audience segments. It's designed for apps that work with an ActiveCampaign account you already use.

ActiveCampaign is available as an [app + chat connector](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md): one shared connection that works in the project chat while you build and in your published apps.

With ActiveCampaign, your app can:

* Search for contacts and create or update their details
* Create mailing lists and subscribe or unsubscribe contacts
* Create and edit campaign drafts, schedule campaigns, and read performance totals
* Create and update audience segments and find matching contacts

Creating a contact does not subscribe it to a mailing list. To send marketing email to new signups, subscribe them to a list after they consent.

> [!NOTE]
>
> For signup confirmations, password resets, receipts, and internal
> notifications, use the built-in [Lovable Emails](https://docs.lovable.dev/features/custom-emails.md). Use
> ActiveCampaign when your app needs the contacts, lists, campaigns, or segments
> in your ActiveCampaign account.

## Common use cases and example apps

These examples show what you can build with ActiveCampaign, each with a prompt to start from.

| Example app | Example prompt | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| Contact directory | *Use ActiveCampaign and build an internal contact directory where our team can search by email and update contact details.* | **Keep contact details current.** The app searches your ActiveCampaign contacts and saves changes to the selected record. |
| Newsletter signup | *Use ActiveCampaign and build a signup form that adds contacts to our newsletter list after they agree to receive email.* | **Collect subscribers who consent to email.** The app creates or updates the contact and subscribes them to the list you choose. |
| List manager | *Use ActiveCampaign and build an internal page where our team can create mailing lists and manage contact subscriptions.* | **Manage mailing lists from one page.** The app creates lists and subscribes or unsubscribes selected contacts. |
| Campaign planner | *Use ActiveCampaign and build a campaign planner where I can edit email drafts, choose recipients, and confirm a send time.* | **Review campaigns before scheduling them.** The app saves the draft and schedules it only after you confirm. |
| Campaign report | *Use ActiveCampaign and build a dashboard that lists our recent campaigns and shows their performance totals.* | **Review campaign performance in your app.** The app reads campaign and message reports from your account. |
| Audience explorer | *Use ActiveCampaign and build an audience tool where I can create segments, edit their rules, and browse matching contacts.* | **Find contacts that match your audience rules.** The app saves segment definitions and displays matching contacts when ActiveCampaign finishes processing them. |

## How to connect ActiveCampaign

Who can create ActiveCampaign connections depends on your plan and workspace settings. App + chat connectors are available by default. On Business and Enterprise plans, [Who can create connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-create-connections-and-clients) starts at **Admins**. Some Enterprise workspaces start at **No one**, which disables the connector. An admin or owner changes it in **Connectors → Admin settings → App + chat connectors**.

You can create multiple ActiveCampaign connections for different accounts, such as a test account and your production account.

When the connection is created, you can [link it to the projects](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#link-a-connection-to-a-project) where you want to use it. Anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in the project chat to link their project to it.

### Prerequisites

Before connecting ActiveCampaign, make sure you have:

* An ActiveCampaign account with access to **Settings → Developer**
* Your ActiveCampaign **API URL** on `api-us1.com` and the **API key** from the same account
* Permission to **create connections** in your Lovable workspace (see [Who can create connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-create-connections-and-clients))

> [!NOTE]
>
> ActiveCampaign bills your account directly. Your [ActiveCampaign
> plan](https://www.activecampaign.com/pricing) determines contact limits, email
> sending limits, and segmentation features.

### Step 1: Get your ActiveCampaign API URL and key

Your API URL identifies the account to connect. Your API key gives Lovable access through your ActiveCampaign user account.

**1. Open your ActiveCampaign account**

Sign in to the ActiveCampaign account you want to connect.

**2. Open Developer settings**

Go to **Settings → Developer**.

**3. Copy the API URL and key**

Copy the **API URL** and **Key** shown on the page. Use the full API URL provided by ActiveCampaign, rather than your account's sign-in address.

Each ActiveCampaign user has their own key. If you delete that user or reset their key, update the credentials in Lovable.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Your API key functions like a password. Keep it secure and enter it only in
> the connection form, not in the project chat.

See ActiveCampaign's [guide to finding your API URL and key](https://help.activecampaign.com/hc/en-us/articles/207317590-Getting-started-with-the-API) for more information.

### Step 2: Connect ActiveCampaign to Lovable

Use the API URL and key from the same ActiveCampaign account in the connection form.

**1. Open ActiveCampaign in Connectors**

Open [**Connectors**](https://lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors) and select **ActiveCampaign**. For the other places to open the catalog from, see [Where to find connectors](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/introduction#where-to-find-connectors).

**2. Add a connection**

Click **Connect** on the connector page. The form is split into collapsible sections, **Details**, **Configure connection**, and **Sharing**.

**3. Name the connection**

Under **Details**, Lovable fills in a name for the connection, which you can change. The name is only used inside Lovable to identify the connection.

**4. Configure the connection**

Under **Configure connection**, enter both required fields:

1. **API URL**: paste your account's API URL, such as `https://youraccount.api-us1.com`.
2. **API key**: paste the key from **Settings → Developer**.

The form accepts the API URL with or without the `/api/3` suffix.

**5. Choose who can use this connection**

Under **Sharing**, the connection is private to you by default and shows a **Private** label. To share it, click **Share with others**. Then add workspace members by email, or click **Invite entire workspace** to make the connection available to everyone in your Lovable workspace.

See [Who can use connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-use-connections-and-clients) for more information.

**6. Connect**

Click **Connect** at the bottom of the form. Lovable verifies the credentials against the ActiveCampaign API before saving the connection.

If the credentials are rejected, Lovable does not create the connection. **Configure connection** reopens with the error. Check that the API URL and key belong to the same account.

When connected, anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in the project chat to link their project to ActiveCampaign (based on configured connection-level access). Your Lovable apps can then work with your contacts, lists, campaigns, and segments.

## Limitations

The ActiveCampaign connector cannot:

* Connect to API URLs outside `api-us1.com`.
* Change the account API URL on an existing connection. Create a new connection to use a different account.
* Support per-end-user ActiveCampaign login. Each connection represents a single ActiveCampaign account shared across all projects linked to it.

## Manage your ActiveCampaign connection

Connections are managed from [**Connectors**](https://lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors): select **ActiveCampaign**, then open the connection.

* **Unlink projects** to remove ActiveCampaign access from specific projects while keeping the connection available for others. See [Unlink projects from a connection](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#unlink-projects-from-a-connection) for the steps.
* **Delete the connection** to remove it from the workspace entirely. Deleting is permanent. It removes the credentials from all linked projects, and app features that use ActiveCampaign stop working until a new connection is added. See [Delete a connection](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#delete-a-connection) for the steps and who can delete.
