# Connect your app to Fireworks AI

> Connect your app to Fireworks AI, a fast inference platform for open models, to run text generation, image generation, and embeddings from your Lovable app.

[Fireworks AI](https://fireworks.ai/) is an inference platform that serves open models through a fast, OpenAI-compatible API. The Fireworks AI connector lets your Lovable app run text generation, image generation, and embeddings on models hosted by Fireworks. It's designed for apps that need a specific open model or a custom endpoint beyond Lovable's built-in AI.

Fireworks AI is available as an [app + chat connector](/integrations/app-connectors): one shared connection that works in the chat while you build and in your published apps.

With Fireworks AI, your app can:

* Generate chat and text completions with open models like Llama, with streaming support
* Generate images with models like FLUX
* Create embeddings for semantic search and recommendations
* List the models available to your Fireworks account and pick one at runtime

Fireworks AI is a good fit when your app needs a specific open model, a custom endpoint you host on Fireworks, or OpenAI-compatible inference you control. For generic AI features with no provider preference, Lovable's built-in AI is the simpler default.

## How to connect Fireworks AI

Who can create Fireworks AI connections depends on your plan and workspace settings. See [Who can create connections and clients](/integrations/admin-controls#who-can-create-connections-and-clients).

You can create multiple Fireworks AI connections using different API keys, which is useful for separating environments (for example, development and production) or managing rate limits.

When the connection is created, you can [link it to the projects](/integrations/app-connectors#link-a-connection-to-a-project) where you want to use it. Anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in chat to link their project to it.

### Prerequisites

Before connecting Fireworks AI, make sure you have:

* A Fireworks AI account
* A Fireworks AI API key
* Permission to **create connections** in your Lovable workspace (see [Who can create connections and clients](/integrations/admin-controls#who-can-create-connections-and-clients))

  All inference requests made through this connector count toward your Fireworks AI usage. Billing and quota are handled directly by Fireworks AI, not Lovable.

### Step 1: Get a Fireworks AI API key

An API key lets your Lovable app authenticate with the Fireworks AI API.

To create a Fireworks AI API key:

    Go to **Settings → Users → [API keys](https://app.fireworks.ai/settings/users/api-keys)**.

    Click **Create API key** and give it a descriptive name, for example `Lovable integration`.

  <Step title="Copy the key">
    Copy the key (it starts with `fw_`) and store it securely.
  </Step>

  Your API key functions like a password. Keep it secure and never share it publicly. You'll need it in the next step.

### Step 2: Connect Fireworks AI to Lovable

You can create multiple connections using different API keys.

    Click **Add connection**.

  <Step title="Configure the connection">
    1. **Display name**: name the connection, for example `Fireworks AI Prod`. This name is only used inside Lovable to identify the connection.
    2. **API key**: paste your Fireworks AI API key (it starts with `fw_`).

  <Step title="Choose who can use this connection">
    Under **Who can use this connection**, decide who in your workspace can use the connection. You start as the only person with access:

    * **Only you** (default): leave the access list as is; only you can use the connection and its associated data.
    * **Invite specific people**: add workspace members by email; only you and the people you add can use the connection and its associated data.
    * **Invite entire workspace**: click **Invite entire workspace** to make the connection available to everyone in your Lovable workspace.

When connected, anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in chat to link their project to Fireworks AI (based on configured connection-level access). Your Lovable apps can then run text generation, image generation, and embeddings through Fireworks AI.

## Limitations

The Fireworks AI connector covers the inference API and cannot:

* Manage your Fireworks account, deployments, or fine-tuning jobs. That functionality lives in a separate management API that the connector does not serve; use the Fireworks dashboard instead.
* Call Fireworks from client-side code. Requests go through Lovable from a server-side endpoint.
* Refresh or rotate API keys automatically. To rotate, create a new key in Fireworks and update the Lovable connection.
* Support per-end-user Fireworks AI login. Each connection represents a single Fireworks account shared across all projects linked to it.

## Manage your {connector_0} connection

Connections are managed from [**Connectors**](https://lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors): select **{connector_0}**, then open the connection.

* **Unlink projects** to remove {connector_0} access from specific projects while keeping the connection available for others. See [Unlink projects from a connection](/integrations/app-connectors#unlink-projects-from-a-connection) for the steps.
* **Delete the connection** to remove it from the workspace entirely. Deleting is permanent. It removes the credentials from all linked projects, and app features that use {connector_0} stop working until a new connection is added. See [Delete a connection](/integrations/app-connectors#delete-a-connection) for the steps and who can delete.
