# Connect your app to Fortnox

> Connect your app to Fortnox, a Swedish accounting and business administration platform, to work with customers, invoices, orders, suppliers, articles, and bookkeeping.

[Fortnox](https://www.fortnox.se/) is a Swedish cloud platform for accounting, invoicing, and business administration. The Fortnox connector lets your Lovable app work with the data in your Fortnox company, including customers, invoices, orders, suppliers, articles, and bookkeeping. It's designed for finance dashboards, invoicing workflows, and internal operations tools built on Fortnox data.

Fortnox is available as an [app + chat connector](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md): one shared connection that works in the chat while you build and in your published apps.

With Fortnox, your app can:

* Read and manage customers and suppliers
* Create, update, and read customer invoices and supplier invoices
* Read and manage orders, offers, and articles
* Read and record payments
* Read company information, settings, currencies, and cost centers
* Read and manage projects and time reporting

A connection reaches the single Fortnox company you authorize. It's a good fit for receivables dashboards, supplier overviews, invoicing portals, and reporting apps that need live accounting data.

## Common use cases and example apps

These examples show what you can build with Fortnox, each with a prompt to start from.

| Example app | Example prompt | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| **Receivables dashboard** | *Use Fortnox and build a dashboard that shows unpaid customer invoices and overdue balances per customer.* | **Track outstanding revenue from Fortnox in one place.** The app reads invoices and payments, then highlights the customers that need follow-up. |
| **Supplier directory** | *Use Fortnox and build a page that lists our suppliers with their name, city, and open supplier invoices.* | **Give finance teams a focused view of suppliers.** The app reads suppliers and supplier invoices from Fortnox and shows who is owed what. |
| **Invoice creation workflow** | *Use Fortnox and build a form that creates a customer invoice in Fortnox from an approved internal request.* | **Turn internal approvals into Fortnox invoices.** The app collects request details, looks up the right customer, and creates the invoice in the connected company. |
| **Customer account tool** | *Use Fortnox and build a tool where staff can search customers and view their details and invoice history.* | **Make Fortnox customer data easy to look up.** The app reads customers and their invoices and gives support and sales teams a quick account overview. |
| **Order tracker** | *Use Fortnox and build an order tracker that groups open orders by customer and shows their delivery status.* | **Follow order flow without opening Fortnox.** The app reads orders and articles, then groups and filters them for the people who handle fulfillment. |
| **Project time overview** | *Use Fortnox and build a report that shows reported hours per project and per employee for the current month.* | **Surface project time data for review.** The app reads projects and time reporting entries, then totals hours so managers can check them before invoicing. |

## How to connect Fortnox

Who can create Fortnox connections depends on your plan and workspace settings. App + chat connectors are available by default on Free, Pro, and Business plans. On Enterprise plans, they are effectively disabled at first: [Who can create connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-create-connections-and-clients) defaults to **No one** until an admin changes it in **Connectors → Admin settings → App + chat connectors**.

You can create multiple Fortnox connections by authorizing different Fortnox companies, which is useful for separating environments or working with several businesses.

When the connection is created, you can [link it to the projects](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#link-a-connection-to-a-project) where you want to use it. Anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in chat to link their project to it.

### Prerequisites

Before connecting Fortnox, make sure you have:

* A Fortnox account with access to the company you want to connect
* Permission to **create connections** in your Lovable workspace (see [Who can create connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-create-connections-and-clients))

> [!NOTE]
>
> All API requests made through this connector count toward the API limits of the connected Fortnox company. Billing and quota are handled directly by Fortnox, not Lovable.

### Set up your Fortnox connection

You authorize Lovable with your Fortnox account, and no API key is needed.

**1. Open Fortnox in Connectors**

Open [**Connectors**](https://lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors) and select **Fortnox**. For the other places to open the catalog from, see [Where to find connectors](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/introduction#where-to-find-connectors).

**2. Add a connection**

Click **Add connection**.

**3. Name the connection**

In **Display name**, name the connection (for example, `Fortnox Prod`). This name is only used inside Lovable to identify the connection.

**4. Review scopes (optional)**

Under **Scopes**, review the permissions your app requests. **Company information** is always included. **Customers**, **Invoices**, **Orders**, **Bookkeeping**, **Suppliers**, **Articles**, and **Projects** are selected by default. Select only the scopes your app needs.

Fortnox lists these permissions under its own names on its authorization screen, in the language of your Fortnox account. The **In Fortnox (Swedish)** column lets you check the two lists against each other before approving.

| Scope | In Fortnox (Swedish) | Description | Default |
| - | - | - | - |
| Company information (`companyinformation`) | Företagsinformation | Read company details and settings. Identifies the connected company | Required |
| Customers (`customer`) | Kund | Read and manage customers | On |
| Invoices (`invoice`) | Faktura | Read and manage customer invoices and accruals | On |

> [!WARNING]
>
> The **Salary** scope grants access to employee and payroll data, including attendance and expenses. Leave it off unless your app needs it.

For full scope documentation, see [Fortnox's scope reference](https://www.fortnox.se/developer/guides-and-good-to-know/scopes).

**5. Choose who can use this connection**

Under **Who can use this connection**, decide who in your workspace can use the connection. You start as the only person with access:

* **Only you** (default): leave the access list as is; only you can use the connection and its associated data.
* **Invite specific people**: add workspace members by email; only you and the people you add can use the connection and its associated data.
* **Invite entire workspace**: click **Invite entire workspace** to make the connection available to everyone in your Lovable workspace.

See [Who can use connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-use-connections-and-clients) for more information.

**6. Connect to Fortnox and authorize**

Click **Connect**. The Fortnox authorization window opens, so make sure your browser doesn't block pop-ups. If it does, Lovable redirects you instead.

Sign in to Fortnox if prompted, choose the company you want to grant access to, review the requested permissions, and approve.

You'll be redirected back to Lovable with a confirmation.

When connected, anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in chat to link their project to Fortnox (based on configured connection-level access). Your Lovable apps can then work with Fortnox customers, invoices, orders, suppliers, articles, and bookkeeping data.

## Limitations

The Fortnox connector cannot:

* Receive Fortnox webhooks or event notifications.
* Support per-end-user Fortnox login. Each connection represents a single Fortnox company shared across all projects linked to it.

If Fortnox access is revoked from the Fortnox side, reconnect the connection in Lovable before API calls can succeed again.

## Troubleshooting

If a Fortnox request fails, the most common cause is a missing permission on the connection.

> [accordion] Fortnox returns "Har inte behörighet för scope."
>
> This means the connection lacks the permission for the resource your app requested. Fortnox reports it as a bad request (HTTP 400, error code 2000663), but the cause is a missing permission, not a problem with the request itself. Fortnox's error reference gives the English meaning as "No access to the current scope".
>
> To fix it, open the connection, click **Edit** next to **Scopes**, select the missing scope, then click **Reconnect** and approve in Fortnox. Retrying without changing the scopes returns the same error.

## Manage your Fortnox connection

Connections are managed from [**Connectors**](https://lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors): select **Fortnox**, then open the connection.

* **Unlink projects** to remove Fortnox access from specific projects while keeping the connection available for others. See [Unlink projects from a connection](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#unlink-projects-from-a-connection) for the steps.
* **Delete the connection** to remove it from the workspace entirely. Deleting is permanent. It removes the credentials from all linked projects, and app features that use Fortnox stop working until a new connection is added. See [Delete a connection](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#delete-a-connection) for the steps and who can delete.
