# Connect your app to Mailchimp Transactional

> Connect your app to Mailchimp Transactional to send personalized email, use your email templates, and track delivery activity from your Lovable app.

[Mailchimp Transactional](https://mailchimp.com/developer/transactional/) (formerly Mandrill) is an email delivery service for messages such as order confirmations and appointment reminders. The **Mailchimp Transactional** connector lets your Lovable app send these messages, use your existing email templates, and read delivery activity from your account.

**Mailchimp Transactional** is available as an [app + chat connector](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md): one shared connection for your Lovable apps.

> [!NOTE]
>
> This page is about **Mailchimp Transactional**, where you send individual emails triggered by activity in your app. Looking for marketing audiences and campaigns? See [Mailchimp](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/mailchimp.md). The two are different features.

With **Mailchimp Transactional**, your app can:

* Send personalized emails from your verified sending domain
* Use existing templates with customer or order details
* Schedule messages and include attachments
* Show recent email activity and delivery status
* Read account statistics and sending-domain information

> [!TIP]
>
> For standard transactional emails (signup confirmations, password resets, receipts, internal notifications), use the built-in [Lovable Emails](https://docs.lovable.dev/features/custom-emails.md).
>
> Lovable Emails can also send from your own domain. Use **Mailchimp Transactional** for scheduled sends, attachments, delivery reporting, or sending you already manage in Mailchimp Transactional.

## Common use cases and example apps

These examples show what you can build with **Mailchimp Transactional**, each with a prompt to start from.

| Example app | Example prompt | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| **Order confirmation emails** | *Use Mailchimp Transactional and build a store that emails customers their order details after checkout.* | **Send purchase details to each customer.** The app sends an email when an order is confirmed. |
| **Appointment reminders** | *Use Mailchimp Transactional and build a booking app that schedules an email reminder before each appointment.* | **Remind customers about upcoming bookings.** The app schedules a message with the appointment time and location. |
| **Customer onboarding** | *Use Mailchimp Transactional and build a welcome flow that fills our existing email template with each new customer's name and account details.* | **Reuse your email templates for personalized messages.** The app fills template fields and sends the welcome email after signup. |
| **Support delivery dashboard** | *Use Mailchimp Transactional and build a support dashboard where staff can search recent emails by recipient and inspect their delivery status.* | **Help support staff investigate missing messages.** The app reads recent email activity and shows the details of a selected message. |
| **Email operations dashboard** | *Use Mailchimp Transactional and build an admin dashboard showing our sending quota, account statistics, and sending-domain status.* | **Monitor your account's email activity.** The app reads account and domain information when an admin refreshes the dashboard. |

## How to connect Mailchimp Transactional

Who can create **Mailchimp Transactional** connections depends on your plan and workspace settings. **App + chat connectors** are available by default. On Business and Enterprise plans, [Who can create connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-create-connections-and-clients) starts at **Admins**.

Some Enterprise workspaces start at **No one**, which disables the connector. An admin or owner changes it in **Connectors → Admin settings → App + chat connectors**.

You can create multiple **Mailchimp Transactional** connections using different API keys.

When the connection is created, you can [link it to the projects](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#link-a-connection-to-a-project) where you want to use it. Anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in the project chat to link their project to it.

### Prerequisites

Before connecting **Mailchimp Transactional**, make sure you have:

* A live Mailchimp Transactional API key. For account and key setup, see the [Mailchimp Transactional quick start](https://mailchimp.com/developer/transactional/guides/quick-start/).
* To send email, a [verified and authenticated sending domain](https://mailchimp.com/developer/transactional/docs/authentication-delivery/) in your Mailchimp Transactional account
* Permission to **create connections** in your Lovable workspace (see [Who can create connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-create-connections-and-clients))

> [!NOTE]
>
> Email sent through this connector is billed by Mailchimp, not Lovable.

### Set up your Mailchimp Transactional connection

Use your API key to create a connection in your Lovable workspace.

**1. Open Mailchimp Transactional in Connectors**

Open [**Connectors**](https://lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors) and select **Mailchimp Transactional**. For the other places to open the catalog from, see [Where to find connectors](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/introduction#where-to-find-connectors).

**2. Add a connection**

Click **Connect** on the connector page to open the connection form.

**3. Name the connection**

Under **Details**, Lovable fills in a name for the connection, which you can change. The name is only used inside Lovable to identify the connection.

**4. Configure the connection**

Under **Configure connection**, paste your Mailchimp Transactional API key into **API key**. To open your Mailchimp Transactional settings, click **Get API key** next to the field.

**5. Choose who can use this connection**

Under **Sharing**, the connection is private to you by default and shows a **Private** label. To share it, click **Share with others**. Then add workspace members by email, or click **Invite entire workspace** to make the connection available to everyone in your Lovable workspace.

See [Who can use connections and clients](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/admin-controls.md#who-can-use-connections-and-clients) for more information.

**6. Connect**

Click **Connect** at the bottom of the form. Lovable verifies the key against the Mailchimp Transactional API before saving the connection.

When connected, anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in the project chat to link their project to **Mailchimp Transactional** (based on configured connection-level access). Your Lovable apps can then send email and read delivery activity through **Mailchimp Transactional**.

To replace the API key later, open the connection and click **Edit** next to **API key** under **Configure connection**. Enter the new key and click **Update**.

## Use Mailchimp Transactional in your project

After linking the connection, tell Lovable which emails your app should send and the sender address to use. For example:

```text wrap theme={null}
Use Mailchimp Transactional to send an order confirmation after checkout. Send from orders@yourdomain.com and include the order number, purchased items, and total. Show delivery activity on an admin page.
```

## Limitations

The **Mailchimp Transactional** connector cannot:

* Read your account data directly in the project chat. Ask Lovable to build a view in your app to inspect delivery activity.
* Let each person using your app sign in with their own Mailchimp Transactional account. Each connection uses one account across the projects linked to it.

## Manage your Mailchimp Transactional connection

Connections are managed from [**Connectors**](https://lovable.dev/dashboard?connectors): select **Mailchimp Transactional**, then open the connection.

* **Unlink projects** to remove Mailchimp Transactional access from specific projects while keeping the connection available for others. See [Unlink projects from a connection](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#unlink-projects-from-a-connection) for the steps.
* **Delete the connection** to remove it from the workspace entirely. Deleting is permanent. It removes the credentials from all linked projects, and app features that use Mailchimp Transactional stop working until a new connection is added. See [Delete a connection](https://docs.lovable.dev/integrations/app-connectors.md#delete-a-connection) for the steps and who can delete.
