Mailchimp Transactional (formerly Mandrill) is an email delivery service for messages such as order confirmations and appointment reminders. The Mailchimp Transactional connector lets your Lovable app send these messages, use your existing email templates, and read delivery activity from your account. Mailchimp Transactional is available as an app + chat connector: one shared connection for your Lovable apps.
This page is about Mailchimp Transactional, where you send individual emails triggered by activity in your app. Looking for marketing audiences and campaigns? See Mailchimp. The two are different features.
With Mailchimp Transactional, your app can:
  • Send personalized emails from your verified sending domain
  • Use existing templates with customer or order details
  • Schedule messages and include attachments
  • Show recent email activity and delivery status
  • Read account statistics and sending-domain information
For standard transactional emails (signup confirmations, password resets, receipts, internal notifications), use the built-in Lovable Emails.Lovable Emails can also send from your own domain. Use Mailchimp Transactional for scheduled sends, attachments, delivery reporting, or sending you already manage in Mailchimp Transactional.

Common use cases and example apps

These examples show what you can build with Mailchimp Transactional, each with a prompt to start from.

How to connect Mailchimp Transactional

Who can create Mailchimp Transactional connections depends on your plan and workspace settings. App + chat connectors are available by default. On Business and Enterprise plans, Who can create connections and clients starts at Admins. Some Enterprise workspaces start at No one, which disables the connector. An admin or owner changes it in Connectors → Admin settings → App + chat connectors. You can create multiple Mailchimp Transactional connections using different API keys. When the connection is created, you can link it to the projects where you want to use it. Anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in the project chat to link their project to it.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Mailchimp Transactional, make sure you have:
Email sent through this connector is billed by Mailchimp, not Lovable.

Set up your Mailchimp Transactional connection

Use your API key to create a connection in your Lovable workspace.
1

Open Mailchimp Transactional in Connectors

Open Connectors and select Mailchimp Transactional. For the other places to open the catalog from, see Where to find connectors.
2

Add a connection

Click Connect on the connector page to open the connection form.
3

Name the connection

Under Details, Lovable fills in a name for the connection, which you can change. The name is only used inside Lovable to identify the connection.
4

Configure the connection

Under Configure connection, paste your Mailchimp Transactional API key into API key. To open your Mailchimp Transactional settings, click Get API key next to the field.
5

Choose who can use this connection

Under Sharing, the connection is private to you by default and shows a Private label. To share it, click Share with others. Then add workspace members by email, or click Invite entire workspace to make the connection available to everyone in your Lovable workspace.See Who can use connections and clients for more information.
6

Connect

Click Connect at the bottom of the form. Lovable verifies the key against the Mailchimp Transactional API before saving the connection.
When connected, anyone building in a project can ask Lovable in the project chat to link their project to Mailchimp Transactional (based on configured connection-level access). Your Lovable apps can then send email and read delivery activity through Mailchimp Transactional. To replace the API key later, open the connection and click Edit next to API key under Configure connection. Enter the new key and click Update.

Use Mailchimp Transactional in your project

After linking the connection, tell Lovable which emails your app should send and the sender address to use. For example:

Limitations

The Mailchimp Transactional connector cannot:
  • Read your account data directly in the project chat. Ask Lovable to build a view in your app to inspect delivery activity.
  • Let each person using your app sign in with their own Mailchimp Transactional account. Each connection uses one account across the projects linked to it.

Manage your Mailchimp Transactional connection

Connections are managed from Connectors: select Mailchimp Transactional, then open the connection.
  • Unlink projects to remove Mailchimp Transactional access from specific projects while keeping the connection available for others. See Unlink projects from a connection for the steps.
  • Delete the connection to remove it from the workspace entirely. Deleting is permanent. It removes the credentials from all linked projects, and app features that use Mailchimp Transactional stop working until a new connection is added. See Delete a connection for the steps and who can delete.
